Week Highlights

Last week, Daniel's Kindergarten class celebrated the 100th day of school.  His classroom needed parent volunteers to help with various activities, so I volunteered and Bobby volunteered to take the day off and help out with Leslie.  It was a lot of fun.  Daniel really enjoyed showing me everything in his classroom, and I enjoyed getting to know his classmates a bit better.

Each child was to send 100 small items from home in a paper bag.  Daniel sent 100 crayons, but there were lots of different items... straws, coins, stickers, beans.  The kids split into groups of three and traveled around the room to about seven different stations all focusing on the number 100.  My station focused on sorting the 100 items each kids brought into groups of 10, and if there was time, groups of five.  It was interesting to see how differently each child worked.  Some kids obviously knew exactly what to do and how to do it quickly, while others took a lot more time.  It was a good exercise in patience for me.  It also reinforced what I already knew... that I was never meant to be a teacher!

After the activities were done, Daniel pleaded with me to stay for lunch.  I've been meaning to get to lunch with him one of these days while Leslie was in school, but it just hasn't happened so far.  So I stayed and had lunch with him.  We both got macaroni and cheese, and I have to say, it was awesome!  I plan on going again some day when they serve it.

This weekend, we met up with our friends Nick and Kate and their kids at City Market for lunch.  After we looked around at all the vendors, produce stands, and drool-worthy food establishments, we rode the Streetcar to Legoland where the kids burned off a ton of energy.  We used to be members to Legoland, so I was a little worried that our kids would get bored easily.  That was not the case!  We ended up staying several hours, and all the kids had fun.  The adults were all a little worn down by the end, but it was great to catch up with our friends.

To close out the weekend, Bobby, yes Bobby, introduced Daniel to the Superbowl.  Daniel's school collected food donations for a local food pantry.  Whatever food donation you brought from home you put into either a bin for the Eagles or the Patriots.  Most kids in his school wanted the Eagles to win, so his excitement mounted for the Superbowl this year.  It was funny to see Bobby explain football to Daniel and try not to let his complete lack of enthusiasm show.  HAHA!
