Cancun

Bobby and I just got back from an AMAZING trip to Cancun, Mexico!  We stayed at an adults only, all-inclusive hotel (Hyatt Zilara Cancun) for four glorious nights.

After we checked in, we went to the coffee house for a little caffeine after our early morning flight.  It felt a bit weird to walk up, say what you want (I tried in Spanish, but mi Espanol es horrible), get your order, and then just walk away without paying. We did tip, and it was amazing to see how grateful the staff were.

Actually, that's one of the aspects of the trip that I was most surprised by... how much we enjoyed the Mexican culture.  Everyone was so nice and accommodating (yes, I know we were at an all-inclusive resort so that makes sense). But it was so fun to try out my very limited Spanish and see how their eyes would light up just because I was trying.  It became like a new game for me - to see how badly I could say it, and then have them correct me!  Or if I did say it right, how impressed they were.  So much fun!

Each day we gorged ourselves with food, drink, and relaxation.  We usually ate at one of the buffets which featured a daily theme (i.e. - Italian, Indian, Mexican, etc.).  We enjoyed that part because then we could try a little of everything.  And have as many desserts as we wanted!  We drank... a lot.  :)  One evening Bobby wanted coffee after dinner and asked for some Baileys to go with it.  Our waiter said, "Can I bring you something better?"  Bobby was up for the "challenge."  In no time, the waiter came back with Crema de Tequila.  I'd never heard of it before, but we tried it, and immediately Bobby said, "It tastes like Christmas!"  It was delicious on it's own, but also great in coffee.  We brought two bottles home with us through the Duty Free store.  Now I wish we'd bought more!

We spent most of our time lounging and drinking at the swim up bar.  Neither of us would have ever said that we're really pool people, but that was probably our favorite part.  Just relaxing, looking out at the ocean in amazingly comfortable water with a mojito or margarita in my hand.

We took a gourmet cooking class.  Other than relaxing at the pool, this was my favorite thing.  We were joined by three other couples (all younger than us), the Activities Director, and several chefs.  We created a skirt steak with avocado and grilled vegetables.  It was amazing, especially considering all of our amateur skills.  We also made a berry dessert.  (Let's be honest here... we were brought all the ingredients, and all we had to do was assemble the dessert.  Still amazing!)  We all connected and had a lot of fun.

We enjoyed a hibachi grill dinner on our last evening there.  The chef was very entertaining and funny.  Someone asked him how long he'd been a chef there, and he said, "This is my first time!"  He was, of course, joking, but it showcases his humor.

Each evening there was a show with a different theme, but the dancers were the same.  While they were good, I wouldn't say they were great.  Still, it was a fun nightly experience.

None of this would have been possible without my parents (and sister, Carrie who joined for a couple of days).  We can't thank you enough.  Knowing that Daniel and Leslie were safe, fed, and probably way happier than when we're home with them, created greater relaxation for us.  We'll start working on our next trip now!  ;)  We love you!

And while we were gone...

Daniel went to a friend's birthday party on Saturday at a riding stable.  My mom said he was a little hesitant at first, but once he relaxed, he really enjoyed it.

Daniel was the only boy at the party!  And so it begins... sigh.  ;)
