NYC Trip

While our blog typically focuses on the kids, I'm going to take a moment a share pictures and stories from our trip to New York City Bobby and I went on last weekend.

It's been six years since Bobby and I took a vacation without kids.  We were definitely overdue.  So way back in July we booked a trip to NYC for a weekend getaway.  And the trip did not disappoint!

It was a 3-day whirlwind trip.

Friday we flew to NYC, had our first Uber/taxi driving experience, checked in at our hotel in Midtown, walked to Grand Central Terminal where we took the Subway to the Financial District, saw the 9/11 Memorial, took an elevator 100 floors up to the top of One World Observatory, walked several miles along the Hudson River, visited Chelsea Market, visited Rockefeller Center and saw the amazing Christmas tree, and went to the Top of The Rock for a night time view of the city (we even got to see someone propose to his girlfriend!).

Did I mention it was freezing cold?!  Probably 20 degrees, and that's not counting for the wind chill.

Saturday it snowed!  Snow in NYC with the Rockefeller Tree - bucket list item checked off!  We started the morning at Radio City Music Hall with the Christmas Spectacular Rockettes, tried to wave while they were doing The Today Show at NBC Studios, took a stroll through Times Square, went shopping at Macys and The Nintendo Store (ironically enough, neither of us are big shoppers, and we both LOVED shopping at both places), visited the inside of St. Patrick's Cathedral, took a subway to the Upper Eastside for "One of the best pizzas in NYC," found the best cheesecake I've ever eaten (maybe the best thing I've ever eaten in my life), and went to bed early.

Sunday morning was my favorite part of the trip.  We decided to splurge and have a ridiculous brunch at The Rainbow Room on the 65th floor of Rockefeller Center.  It was the best meal I've ever had.  Simply amazing.  I consider myself somewhat of a foodie (minus my shellfish allergy), so being able to try different a la carte items with multiple carving stations, a crepe station, several eggs benedict options, and several main entrees, I was one happy lady.

Only part of the dessert buffet (there were 3 other tables full of desserts too.)  When I was admiring the desserts, the manager of the Rainbow Room came and chatted with me about his pastry chef and how much work goes into each dessert.  It was really enjoyable to chat with him, especially since I love a good dessert (or four!).

Sunday morning was warm... nearly 60 degrees, so coats were not necessary.  I loved how many times our excursions in NYC took us past the Rockefeller tree.

We got to Rockefeller Center a little early, so we stopped by the NBC store.  Don't I look like a natural?!  Lol

So this probably goes without saying, but when we left, we were STUFFED.  I mean, pretty uncomfortable.  So we walked back to our hotel, changed, and walked through Central Park to The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The MET).  Neither of us are really art people, but it was still interesting to be among all the historical works (and so many different cultures).

Then, another crazy ride to LaGuardia (I think you have to have a special license to drive in NYC, or you have to be crazy!), and a 3 1/2 hour plane ride home, and it was all over.

I hope you got a sense for how much fun we had.  We missed our kiddos, but after six years, this was long overdue.  And of course, it wouldn't have been possible without my parents.  Mom and Dad, thank you SO MUCH for staying with Daniel and Leslie while we went on this adventure.  We know you probably had as much fun as we did (each time we called, I heard the joy in my mom's voice and two excited kids who just wanted to get back to playing with Grandpa and Grandma), but we simply can't thank you enough.  WE LOVE YOU AND THANK YOU!

We, of course, forgot to take pictures of the kids with their grandparents, so this is all we got.  I think it's an accurate description of the fun they had together.  :)
