Last week we had a big trip to San Diego planned. Unfortunately, Bobby got sick and so did Aspen. They both were feeling a little better on last Friday, but ultimately, we decided it was better to stay home for the week and have a little "staycation" instead. (I think it was a good decision too, because I got sick for part of the week too.)
We tried to plan a little something fun each day. Since Daniel had school Monday, I was the one who got to have some fun... we went to IKEA! It was so nice to shop there during the week while it was quiet. We picked up some fun stuff for the house and had a lunch out (Indian food - yum!) with Leslie.
Tuesday Daniel had school again, but we went to the mall after school. Not too exciting, but there's a play area the kids love there, and we split a pretzel and went out for dinner.
Wednesday was a big day. We went to
Science City inside Union Station. We thought Daniel would love it there, and we were right! Bobby and Daniel started the day off seeing "
Back To the Moon For Good," at the Planetarium. Daniel LOVED it. It really was his first experience in a theater, and we're glad it was so positive. There were several different areas to explore including a dinolab and digsite, which I think was his favorite spot there.

Leslie loved the freedom of running around while not strapped in the stroller. The biggest bummer was how crowded it was. There were several school groups there, all much older than Daniel, and they were definitely running the show. It felt a little more like we visited on a weekend than a Wednesday.

Since Science City is basically across the street from Legoland, we, of course, stopped there for a while. We hoped Leslie would nap on our walk over there, but she didn't want to miss a thing. She stayed awake the entire day until we left around 4:00 to try to beat the rush hour traffic. Legoland was, of course, a huge hit with both kids.

Thursday was a big day as well. We picked Daniel up from school a bit early and headed for the
Great Wolf Lodge! We told him about it Thursday morning, and he was excited. When we got there, he loved it! He didn't want to go down any of the water slides, but he loved the lazy river and hot tub - my favorites too! We played for a few hours, went out to dinner, and came back for more swimming before bed. Leslie liked playing the tot area and tried to drink the water most of the time... sigh. The hotel was surprisingly comfortable. It was a bit dated, but the beds were comfortable, there were lots of fun activities for the kids, and of course, they loved the water. We didn't get many photos because we didn't want to leave our phones or cameras unattended in the water park. But here are the few we did manage to get:

Friday we swam a bit in the morning and then headed home. We were all pretty wiped, so we spent the rest of the day at home, playing outside and catching up on laundry.
And just like that, it's over. We were sad to miss out on San Diego, but we are so grateful for such a fun week. I loved having Bobby home and all of his help. It was fun to explore places in KC we haven't been yet. Perhaps there will be another staycation in our future!
