My, how he's grown!

Daniel and Aspen are becoming the best of friends.  Daniel loves to pet and love on Aspen.  Aspen tolerates hims well.  :)  After I snapped the second picture, I remembered the one we took of him when he was nearly 1-month-old.  Amazing how quickly time goes by!

Sunday Chore-day

We had great weather today and took advantage of it to get outside and gets some chores done.  Daniel loves helping with things like this.  We started by planting some tomatoes and zucchini - he helped shovel the dirt into the containers and helped water afterwards.  Next we washed one of the cars and then mowed the yard.  Overall a very productive day and it was great to be able to get outside and enjoy the weather.

Even Trixie and Aspen were able to enjoy the sun!

Video Update

Here are a few videos from the last day or two.  Grandma and Grandpa gave Daniel a lawn mower when we were there last weekend.  He loves it!  The dogs on the other hand...not so much.:

After bathtime, we always put lotion on Daniel.  Tonight he wanted to mimic us by putting lotion on Aspen.  Thankfully he wasn't able to actually get any out, but watching him do it was very cute:

His talking continues to get better.  Here, he wanted Amy to move out of the chair and we used that as an opportunity to practice a few words.  Huzzah! is a new one as of tonight (we remember cousin Anya saying that when she was about his age).  And at the end, you can see he will still often fall back on a word he knows if we ask him to say one that he hasn't said before:

Aunt Danielle's Baby Shower

We spent this past weekend in Iowa for Aunt Danielle's baby shower.  We had a great time seeing everyone and are very excited for the arrival of cousin Bennett and cousin Oliver this summer!

21 month update

Daniel turned 21-months-old yesterday.  We are a day late with the blog post - Amy and I had a date night last night - dinner and the Bon Jovi concert.  We had a great time and thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for babysitting!

Speech continues to be our biggest challenge with Daniel.  He has learned two new words though, so some progress!  He will now say 'help' and 'uh oh'.  Usually only when prompted by us, but this morning he said 'help' on his own.  He also says 'abba!' which doesn't really mean anything (unless he's referencing the '70s Swedish rock band), but is generally his stand in word if we ask him to say anything other than 'help', 'uh oh', or 'mama'.  Over the last few weeks he has really started doing LOTS more babbling and jabbering nonsense.  We're hopeful that this is a step in the right direction.  Next week we meet with a speech therapist for the first time.  He is too young to diagnose with anything, but we're looking forward to tips and things that we can work on with him at home.

He still absolutely loves to help out around the house.  Laundry, vacuuming, sweeping, cleaning (with an empty spray bottle and paper towel), and doing projects are his favorite things.  He very much wants to be involved with whatever we are doing.

The nicer weather lately has given us the opportunity to spend more time outside.  Daniel loves playing outside, and especially in the garage.  Again, his playing tends to be more project oriented.  He has 3 different brooms that he will use to sweep the garage.

His memory constantly surprises us.  Today we were reading a book and it had a picture of an egg in it.  He pointed to the egg excitedly and then did a pretend throw motion.  He was remembering when he played with plastic eggs with great granddaddy a few weeks ago!  He would throw them to great granddaddy who would them bounce them back with a vacuum attachment (see video below).

He also loves for to us to talk about the day's activities before bed.  If he is upset or fussy, it always calms him down to talk about what he did that day.  He participates in the discussion by using bits of sign language and other motions when we ask about the different events from the day.

Amy continues to be very active with him - they go to the library and other mom's group outings multiple times per week.  They learn new songs at the library each week and singing those songs together has become part of our evening routine.  The hokey pokey is his current favorite.

Daniel continues to be, as always, so much fun!

Puzzle

This is a relatively long video (around 6 minutes), but it shows Daniel's recent development and recognition of letters and shapes, and of course, his shining personality.  :)

Pullen Park and Laundry

An interesting blog mix today... we just returned from a week long trip to North Carolina to visit Bobby's family in the Asheville area and then to attend my cousin Katy's wedding in Raleigh.  Lots of pictures to come, but in the meantime, here are a couple of videos.

The slide and carousel videos were taken at Pullen Park in Raleigh.  This is one of the best parks ever.  It's the kind of park you want to go to even as an adult!  There was a train, carousel, paddle boats, all sorts of play equipment, and a small cafe.  We liked it so much that we went on both Friday and Saturday!  If you're ever in the Raleigh area (even if you don't have kids) I highly recommend it.

With vacation comes loads and loads of laundry.  Thankfully Daniel loves to "help" with the laundry.  He recently started fluffing the clothes after they come out of the dryer.  It's pretty cute as you'll see below.  Here's your video, Grandmommy!
