Snow Day!
Yesterday we received 10 inches of snow! Thankfully, Bobby's work closed, so he got to spend the day with us. He also got to use the new snowblower for the first time. I think he was pretty excited! After he was done snowblowing, we bundled Daniel up (thanks for the hand-me-down snow suit, cousin Anya!) to play.
Not surprisingly, Daniel didn't have much interest in the snow. He was, however, interested in pushing the shovel. Then I think he got too cold. I always wanted one of those really cute pictures where your kid looks up at you from a big snow pile and smiles. Unfortunately, Daniel was less than thrilled to be outside as you'll see. Thank goodness we're heading for San Diego's much warmer weather tomorrow!

Weekend Fun
Saturday was Daniel's last swimming class for the Winter season. The first two weeks were pretty rough. He had no interest in being in the water or letting go of Mommy or Daddy. By the end of the 6-week class session, he was practically jumping right in the water! He especially loved playing with the rubber ducky. Below are a few pictures to show his excitement with swimming.
Saturday evening we went to a new restaurant called T-Rex Cafe. It was awesome! I honestly think I liked it most! Every table had something fun right next to it. Next to our table was a large waterfall fountain that came down from the ceiling and was lighted blue. Next to the other tables were large replicas of dinosaurs and huge aquariums. Daniel loved taking it all in. There was also a wall with sconces of fire. He was excited when the fire would throw up a flame. At the end of dinner there was a person in a dinosaur suit where you could get your picture taken. Daniel had no interest in that.
Overall, it was a great weekend! We look forward to the next session of swimming, and the next time we can see the dinosaurs!

19-Month Update
Another month has flown by, so it's time for another Daniel update!
Daniel's speech is still lagging behind. He can say "mama" and "more." We are hoping with the help of a speech therapist recommended through the Lee's Summit School District that we may get him to be more chatty. He babbles a lot in his crib before falling asleep and waking up, so we know he can say "dada" and other sounds, but he can't when asked. Generally he gets irritated when you ask him to say anything.
Understanding words is completely different. Bobby and I are honestly astounded at what he understands. When reading picture books to Daniel, he can point to almost anything we ask. Amazingly enough, if it's a word we haven't taught him yet, he uses process of elimination to pick the object. I don't know if this is normal behavior for a 19-month-old or not, but I'm impressed! We are also amazed at what he notices. I moved a decoration in our family room to the living room while he napped, and he was very quick to point out that the decoration moved.
Some of Daniel's favorite activities include using his tool set, building with Legos, reading, playing outside and in the garage, running around in stores, putting together puzzles, putting shape pieces into a shape sorter, riding around on his big wheel or Thomas the Train, and feeding his dog (pretend play).
He is very eager to help. Daniel loves to clean (I love this about him!), enjoys putting the soap in and closing the dispenser to the dishwasher, shutting the door, and pushing the start button. He also loves doing and watching the laundry, helping daddy put his work clothes (or his own clothes) in the dirty laundry, and helping mommy "cook." He also loves all things vacuum. The other day we were in Kohls and went by the section with the vacuums... you would have thought the kid was in Disneyland! He's so funny.
Here are some pictures to show off our handsome little 19-month-old. He's growing up so fast!

Playtime
Daniel and I had a play group mom (Maryann) and her daughter (Morgan) over for a play date on Friday. It was great! Daniel and Morgan "played" as much as any two toddlers do, and I had great time talking with Maryann. At the end of the play date, I asked Daniel if he wanted to give Morgan a hug. See the cuteness below that ensued. :)

Just a little Spring cleaning
We enjoyed a little warm stretch on Sunday, so we took Daniel outside. He enjoyed his freedom to run, but mostly just wanted to push the large broom around the garage. Having no problem with that, we put him to work and he was a happy boy.
Bonus picture - talking about computer "stuff" no doubt:

Gym Time
Today Daniel and I visited a new gym. We met up with some other moms/kids from a play group we belong to. We really liked it!
You'll see in the video below that there's a huge inflatable slide. Daniel is a little young for the slide since you basically have to climb up a rock wall with grips to get to the top. Though I can see the day fast approaching where he will have a blast sliding down that crazy thing.
Here are some videos from the excursion - enjoy!
